Moon Diary
Saturday January 23. 2016 – Full Moon
Saturday is associated with the planet Saturn, also called Shani or Shanaishchara (the slow mover) because it takes 2.5 years to travel through each constellation of the sidereal zodiac. Saturn represents austerity, discipline, restrictions and sufferings.
Saturn is also a spiritual teacher, but one who teaches through restriction, hard work, purification, service and humility, leading the person to face his weaknesses and more negative tendencies, to recognize and change them.
Today is the 15th and final day waxing day of the Moon – Shukla Purnima or Full Moon.
The brightness of the Moon is an indicator of strength and auspiciousness, and for any action to bear fruit, the Moon should be strong, and it is strongest when full.
The Moon is full at 8:46 pm this evening.
The Moon is in the sign of Cancer – the sign it rules – and in the Nakshatra of Pushya, ruled by Saturn. The deity for Pushya is Brihaspati who is the Vedic priest. The two distinctive qualities of Pushya are nurturing and being persistent.
So today is a day of nurturing, especially nurturing yourself – self care, gentle thoughts, speak softly – be as quiet is possible, at least for awhile. Good day to organize, clean, and box up old magazines in preparation to give them away. Straighten up the basement; clear out he attic; sweep the garage. (And on the East coast, shovel some snow!)
Good day to pray, to be receptive, to act on feelings from the heart – to lend a helping hand to all you meet. The Moon is the Mother – the one who feels everything; the one who lives in the heart; the one who has a 6th sense and a knowing beyond the mind.
So feel the beauty of the Moon- the fullness, the enhanced sense of knowing, the messages that come is so many ways – be aware, be awake, be astute in your awareness – the Moon can be magical and transcend mental boundaries if you can tune into Her power.
Traditionally, a great day for all ceremonies and worship – an auspicious day for praying, singing, and chanting the praises of the Holy Name.
