Moon Diary 2.9.15

Monday is associated with the Moon.

Today is a Nanda day – Nanda meaning happy.

Today is the 21st lunar day, Krishna Shashti, the 6th day of the waning Moon cycle.

The deity is Kartikeya – the second son of the divine couple, Shiva and Parvathi, and the younger brother of Ganesha.

Kartikeya tends to the spiritual growth of aspirants, having the fire and energy to lead the army towards moksha (liberation). He represents transmutation of sexual energy and utilizing such energy for spiritual evolution. He takes care of health, family life, healthy children, and assets such as land, etc. – Fire and Mars relate to Karthikeya. He is considered the god of war and triumph.

The Moon is in the sign of Libra, ruled by Venus, and in the Nakshatra of Chitra, ruled by Mars. Moon in Chitra is passionate, with a lot of energy and enthusiasm to create.

So we have this Moon day with fire and energy (Kartikeya &Mars) and applying that energy in any situations with others (Venus). Great day for asking for help for any kind of project, for meeting new friends, for helping a neighbor clean up his yard, for helping your kids with a school project. Mars energy can be invigorating, and channeling that energy to help others is in line with how it rolls on this day.

Traditionally, today is favorable for coronations, real estate transactions, festivities and enjoyment.

Moon Diary 2.3.15

Tuesday is associated with Mars.

Mars is the warrior, the soldier, and gives determination and drive. He can be argumentative, and short-tempered. He brings to the table a strong sense of purpose and an independent spirit.

Today is the 15th and final day of the waxing Moon – Shukla Purnima – Full Moon – auspicious day for ceremonies, spiritual practices, and the manifestation of wishes. The brightness of the Moon is an indicator of strength and auspiciousness, and for any action to bear fruit, the Moon should be strong, and it is strongest when full.

So yes it is a Purna day – Purna meaning full.

Shukla Purnima is ruled by Jupiter, and the deity is Chandra, which in reality, is the Moon. The influence of the Chandra can be interpreted as “one that bestows soberness and clarity.”

The Full Moon is in its own sign. Cancer, and in the Nakshatra of Alsesa, which is ruled by Mercury and represents getting free of entanglements – the serpent energy can be binding – showing emotional attachment to one’s own desires.

So the Moon is flying high, being in its own sign, and being bright and full and glorious; and Mercury, Jupiter and Mars are also in the mix.

The full Moon is an auspicious time, where the light shines on your being, day and night; when the tides are swollen, the emotions can run high, and the swooning comes easy just by catching a glimpse of the big round electric pie in the sky.

The Moon, Alice, the Moon!

A great day for all ceremonies and worship – an especially sweet day for praying, singing, and chanting the praises of the Holy Name. An ideal time for wishing on the Moon and visualizing the manifestation of good in lives of everyone, everywhere.

Moon Diary 2.2.15

Monday is associated with the Moon.

Today is a  Rikta day – Rikta meaning stressed.

Today is the 14th day of the waxing cycle of the Moon, Shukla Chaturdashi, and the deity is Kali. The Moon is nearly full.

Kali’s name means “She who is black.” She is generally depicted half-naked, with a garland of skulls, a belt of severed limbs and waving weapons with two of her 10 hands. She is often dancing on a prostrate Shiva, who looks up at her admiringly. Two of Kali’s hands are empty and in the mudras (gestures) of protection and fearlessness. Her tongue is stuck out to swallow up evil and negative thoughts.

The Moon is in the sign of Cancer – the sign it rules – and in the Nakshatra of Pushya, ruled by Saturn. The deity for Pushya is Brihaspati who is the Vedic priest. The two distinctive qualities of Pushya are that of being nurturing and having  a persistent nature.

So the Moon shows up in a big in its own house on a Monday, nearly full, with Kali adding an element of intensity.

If you find yourself just feeling the world and your own emotions today, more than usual, it’s the Moon that has your attention. This could be a “tough love” correction day, and best to know not take anything to heart – go with the flow with the family, the boss, the girlfriend, the boyfriend, the kids, the parents – let anything you experience just roll off your back and just keep going, knowing the Moon, the lovely sweet Moon, is tugging on the fluid in your body and you’re feeling a pressure that will soon ease. The Moon is also about unconditional love and nurturing, so throw a kind word to anyone close to you, pat a tree gently as you walk past it, nod to the sweet elderly lady in the supermarket, for we all can use a dose of kindness.

Good day to chant to Shiva and honor the energy of fierceness and aggression, knowing it has its place.

Moon Diary 1.31.15

Saturday is associated with Saturn.

Saturn is related to slow moving, the elderly, long life, the judge, the field of law, career, wealth and incoming gains, as well as restriction and difficulties. It reflects the karma we are here to burn off in this lifetime, and in that sense, it is a planet of rectification and much needed correction, and its overall effect is one of triumph through discipline and hard work.

Today is a Jaya day – Jaya means victory.

Today is the 13th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Trayodashi, and the deity is Kamadeva.

Kamadeva is responsible for forming friendships, sensual pleasures and gratification, sexual desire and its fulfillment. Also, human’s desires, wishes, passions, pleasure of the senses, the aesthetic enjoyment of life, and affection.

You get the idea – Kamadeva is a sensual, art-loving love button.

The Moon is in the sign of Gemini, ruled by Mercury, and in the Nakshatra called Ardra, ruled by Rahu.

Ardra’s deity is Rudra, an early version of Shiva, who transforms, changes and destroys that which is not in accordance with Dharma, righteousness and truth. It is a Nakshatra of change, swift action, transformation, and rebelliousness.

Rahu-ruled Ardra can be stormy in character; prone to temper-tantrums, and can be seen to have a deep emotional need to feel hormonal, wild, and instinctive.

So we have Saturn bringing discipline and order, Mercury being curious and watching the details, and Rudra and Rahu adding various levels of intensity. And then there’s the sensual Kamadeva.

So today is a good day to balance the energies and spread your time evenly, more or less, between work, play, introspection and maintenance – there is no one single energy that is going to win today, so go with what is on your plate – talk with a friend, organize your closet, have lunch with the spouse, and take a walk in nature – play with the kids, and do a little bit of yoga to unwind – you are writing the script – just know to mix it up and let the energy flow to where it is needed – the rest is not up to you.

Good day to dance, chant to Shiva, and sing to the top of your lungs when you are alone.

Moon Diary 1.30.14

Friday is associated with Venus.

Venus is a rajasic and benefic planet, and governs romance, beauty, sensuality, passion, comforts, luxuries, wealth, and the bedroom. It is the significator of romantic relationships in a vedic astrology chart.

Today is a Bhadra day – Bhadra means blessed.

Today is the 12th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Dwadashi, and the deity is Vishnu.

Vishnu is know as the Paramatman (supreme soul) and is regarded as a major god in Hinduism and Indian mythology. He is thought of as the preserver of the universe.

The Moon is in the sign of Gemini, ruled by Mercury, and also in the Nakshatra of Mrigashira, ruled by Mars. The symbol for Mrigashira is the deer’s head, and there’s a sense of someone with the intuitive gift of being able to “sniiff out” people and feelings and vibes.

So it is a blessed day – feeling the curiosity and expression (Mercury), feeling the power (Vishnu), feeling blessed (Bhadra), feeling the energy of action (Mars), feeling the love (Venus).

This is the kind of day where you can hit the ground running. A Thelma and Louise day! There’s nothing holding you back, save your own mind. If you’ve been holding back up to now, throw off hesitation and doubt and just go for it. Make plans, celebrate, be social, work extra hard – you can handle it today – go the extra mile for someone you love.

You’ll be able to make decisions easily today – just sniff out the vibe, follow your intuition, use your discernment as to what to say, what to do, and where to go.

Traditionally, an auspicious day for all ceremonies and events.

Moon Diary 1.27.15

Tuesday is associated with Mars.

Mars is said to be a god of war, a warrior, and a ruler over courage, bravery, and leadership abilities. He also can be short-tempered and argumentative. He gives energy, drive, determination, and a strong sense of purpose.

Today is the 8th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Ashtami, also known as the 8th tithi or 8th lunar day. It is ruled by Shiva.

Shiva is about battle, and transforming that which no longer serves into more evolved & higher-principled action and outcomes. Shiva is the ascetic dweller of the mountains and the cosmic dancer, who with His third eye destroys evil.

It also a Jaya day, a day of triumph and victory.

The Moon is in the sign of Aries, ruled by Mars, and in the nakshatra of Bharani, ruled by Venus. The deity of Bharani is Yama, the god of death. Yama is synonymous with restraint, and with the Moon in Bharani, there’s a feeling of restraint, and an awareness of consequences.

So there’s Mars energy today, with a certain amount of restraint, and an aim to transform what is no longer needed.

This is a good day for action, first and foremost, with a sense of restraint. A good day not to sit around but to spring into action, “doing” more than “contemplating.” So by all means, if you’ve made a list to get things done, this is the day to go down that list and get started. There may be a feeling of being hemmed in, or slowed down by circumstances not under your control; just breathe into it and do what you can. Maybe take a part of your house that’s a mess and transform it into a beautiful space. Or take the thoughts that no longer serve you and transform them into positive, uplifting messages.

Traditionally not an auspicious day for most ceremonies.

Moon Diary 1.26.15

Monday is associated with the Moon.

The Moon is the Mother, the font of unconditional love, the goddess of connection and the ruler over water, the seas, and the plant kingdom. Moon is the mind. If you find yourself moody, emotional and sensitive, that is the Moon being acted upon by stressful forces.

Today is a bhadra day – bhadra means blessed.

Today is the 7th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Saptami, and the deity is Indra.

Indra is the chief deity in ancient Vedic Hinduism and the god of war and rain, which were the greatest concerns of the people in India at that time. He separated the heavens and the earth by defeating Vrtra, a snake-dragon representation of chaos and obstacles.

The Moon is in the nakshatra of Ashwini, in the sign of Aries. Aswhini is ruled by Ketu, and Aries is ruled by Mars. This can be seen as physically vigorous (Mars) and emotionally detached (Ketu).

The deity of Aswini is the twin horses – horses are a symbol of prana, breath and vitality. The twin horses show the impulsive nature of Aries that needs to be harnessed and focused.

The Moon in Ashwini is reflective of possessing an enthusiastic drive towards the goal.

So this is a day where lots of work can be accomplished. There’s enthusiasm and warrior energy in the mind. Monday is a fresh start in the work world, and the balance to all this enthusiasm and vigor would be to stop, listen, feel – to take time out from the goal-orientated moments to just be aware of the moment and all that entails.

So yes, by all means, dive into your work or a project you’ve been thinking about. You could write a song, or fix the hinge on the back door, or hang a painting that’s been sitting against the wall on the floor for months. Or maybe at work you are ready to dig deep into the pile of paperwork waiting in your in-box. And when you do stop for a moment to take a break, take a few deep breaths and maybe, just maybe, you’ll realize all that you are and all that you’ll always be.

Traditionally an auspicious day for marriage; dance, music, singing; traveling.

Friday is associated with the planet Venus, a benefic, rajasic planet that governs romance, beauty, sensuality, passion, comforts, wealth, and luxuries.

“Thank God it’s Friday” not only denotes the end of the common work week but also to let the party begin – work is done and now we can pursue pleasure, beauty, art, and in general, fun times, good times – a time to feel free and not work.

Venus is known as Shukra in Hindu Mythology, and literally means “semen” in Sanskrit.

Today is a Rikta day – Rikta meaning stressful. The adjective sometimes used is “fierce.”

Today is the 4th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Chaturthi, and each day now we are seeing the Moon getting stronger in its influence leading up to Purna, the day of fullness.

The deity for this day is Ganesh, who removes obstacles, clears out unneeded energy, and paves the way for efficiency and smooth sailing.

Moon is in the Nakshatra of Purva Bhadra Pada – surefooted goat (or one footed goat)- ruled by Jupiter – advancing and pushing towards the goal.

So Venus, Jupiter, and Ganesh – all in the mix today – Venus is rajasic and seeks pleasure and beauty and comforts; Jupiter, Guru-teacher, and Ganesh, clearing out obstacles.

Good for planning, strategizing, pondering teachings and beauty. A clear-thinking day (Ganesh), a time where you could discuss spiritual beliefs while drinking a glass of wine.

A good day to teach the kids how to appreciate beauty, art, culture, or just buy them an ice cream. Good day to kick back after work, buy your spouse some flowers, or go to church just to be quiet for a while before going to a party. Things can come easy (Ganesh) but it could be intense at the same time (Rikta).

Traditionally not an auspicious day for ceremonies.

1.24.15

Saturday is associated with the planet Saturn.

Saturn (a.k.a Shani) is a malefic planet, a planet of learning.

Saturn can often manifest as depression or feeling down in the dumps. Frustration and mounting inner desires are the signs of Saturn. It is restrictive, fearsome, cold, and one of life’s greatest teachers.

When well placed, it gives its natives integrity, wisdom, patience, perseverance, authority, and organizational abilities.

When not well placed or ill-aspected, it can bring miseries, sorrow, delays, disappointment, and disharmony.

Today is the 5th day of the waxing moon –Shukla Panchami – and the deity is Nāga (Deity who rules Serpents) – the Nāgas are generally regarded as guardians of treasure.

It’s a Purna day – purna means full.

The Moon is in the sign of Pisces (ruled by Jupiter), and in the Nakshatra of Uttara Bhadra Pada, ruled by Saturn. The deity is the celestial serpent. With Saturn as the ruler, this placement is indicative of a highly structured (Shani), intuitive mind and disciplined habits.

So we have Saturn in a big way today, with Jupiter as a partner, ruling the Moon in Pisces, a dual water sign. We also have the deity of serpents show up twice. The potential for a stressful emotional day is there, and Jupiter keeps things in balance so as to not get out of hand.

Today can be a day of discipline, to study spiritual books and seek deeper knowledge through meditation, solitude, and contemplation.

Also a good day to clean, organize, and bring to order your belongings, your closet, your garage. Catch up on that laundry, clean the long neglected basement, maybe tackle the attic; and in the process, you may uncover long forgotten treasures (Serpent energy), old love letters, ancient pictures, or an overlooked scrapbook. Use your intuition as to what to do next – this is a good day to tune into your deeper wisdom and act from there. Maybe take a walk in nature to ease the seriousness of Saturn.

Traditionally an auspicious day for all ceremonies.

1.15.15

Thursday is associated with Jupiter.

Jupiter is a benefic, masculine planet, signifier of luck and fortune, and he rules religion, philosophy, spirituality, and higher teachings. He is known as Guru or Father, and represents the husband in a woman’s chart. He is noble, dignified, fruitful, and optimistic.
Jupiter generally brings benefits to whatever planets or house it is associated with.
Today is a purna day; purna means full.
Today is the 25th lunar day, Krishna Dashami, the 10th day of the waning Moon.

The moon is in the nakshatra of Vishaka – Vishakha has a rakshasa temperament with a primary motivation of dharma. It also is ruled by Jupiter and the God of Dharma – the main deities are Radha, the divine consort of Sri Krishna and Indra / Agni.

Vishaka is a place of shakti – the power to achieve many and various fruits in life.

So today has Jupiter written all over it – a time to go deep into what you believe – to reflect on your soul’s purpose – great day for meditation, auspicious events, ceremonies. Today could be a day of great fortune, or at least, a day of benefic circumstances – someone could treat you to a coffee at work, or your spouse may surprise you with a gift.

A day for virtuous acts and following your own higher aspirations – buy a child a toy, spread the goodness, share a kind word to all you meet. Try being the guru of upliftment, spreading positive energy and benefic vibrations – if you’re not feeling it, fake it until you make it – be kind, generous, forgiving – Jupiter energy will do the rest.
