Moon Diary 7.25.15

Saturday is associated with the planet Saturn.

Saturn (a.k.a Shani) is a malefic planet, a planet of learning.

It is considered one of life’s greatest teachers.

When well placed, it gives its natives integrity, wisdom, patience, perseverance, authority, and organizational abilities.

When not well placed or ill-aspected, it can bring miseries, sorrow, delays, disappointment, and disharmony.

Today is a Rikta day, Rikta meaning stressed. The adjective sometimes used is fierce.

Today is the 9th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Navami. The influence of the Moon is growing stronger in the waxing cycle, and we are leading up to a full Moon on Friday the 31st.

The Moon is in Libra, ruled by Venus, and in the Nakshatra of Vishaka, ruled by Jupiter. The deities of Vishaka are Indra and Agni. Indra is the god that is related to the sky, lightning and that kind of force. Agni is the god of fire who is the one who purifies our intention.

Vishaka literally means fourth branch and it is related to triumphal archway. It often has a lot to do with justice, social righteousness and causes.

In addition, the Moon is hemmed in between two malefics, Rahu in Virgo and Saturn in Scorpio. This adds pressure to the Moon – the mind and consciousness will be possibly agitated and not at ease – and the addition of Saturn ruling the day means this may be a day you’re tempted to stay in bed and not come out til late afternoon.

As it is, with so much Saturn energy evident, it’s a good day to use the best Saturn has to offer – good day for sadhana, yoga, exercise; excellent time to organize the basement, the garage, the desk; advantageous time to visit parents, uncles, elders – to help an elderly neighbor mow their lawn, or help a struggling grandma across the street. Any association with an older person in your life will be in tune with the energy of today. Any association with working for a good cause (Vishaka) would also harmonious with today’s flow. Maybe a good cause that benefits seniors.

In addition, Venus goes retrograde today and is joined with Jupiter in the sidereal sign of Leo – there’s much to reflect on with values and relationships, and there will be a certain amount of wisdom gained from that reflection.

Traditionally, an inauspicious day for traveling and ceremonies.

Moon Diary 7.21.15

Tuesday is associated with Mars.

Mars is all about action, putting forth your ideas in an assertive way, and being willing to fight for what you believe. Mars is the lawyer, the soldier, will power.

Today is a Nanda day, Nanda meaning happiness.

Today is the 6th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Shashti, whose deity is Kartikeya.

Kartikeya is the second son of the divine couple, Shiva and Parvathi, and the younger brother of Ganesha.

He tends to the spiritual growth of aspirants, having the fire and energy to lead the army towards moksha (liberation). He represents transmutation of sexual energy and utilizing such energy for spiritual evolution. He takes care of health, family life, healthy children, and assets such as land, etc. Fire and Mars relate to Karthikeya. He is considered the god of war and triumph.

The Moon is in the sidereal sign of Virgo, ruled by Mercury, and in the nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni, ruled by the Sun.

So Mars and Kartikeya bring a confluence of warrior energy to this day, while the Sun and Mercury add power and intelligence to the mix.

For openers, it’s a day of action, getting things done, taking matters in your own hands. A good day for tending to details, for messaging, writing, communicating (Mercury). Careful not to be overly assertive (Sun and Mars combination).

Easy does it – feel the surge of action and power that can be channeled into all the details that keep your life running and in good working order.

So today is also about courage and never giving up. And it can be that the courageous and warrior energy of this day is more about the feelings and the mind, and what is happening internally. Strong, passionate, courageous energies are on display, and drive the motivation, the thoughts, the mind.

Virgo is an earth sign, so the Moon here feels rooted – there’s a sense of standing on solid ground, which is a definite plus in the midst of all the warrior energy in play.

Traditionally a good day for commerce, especially real estate.

Moon Diary 7.1.15

(Plus Venus/Jupiter conjunction in Cancer)

Wednesday is associated with Mercury.

Mercury rules communication, speech, intelligence, self-confidence; and when in good dignity, it stimulates growth, curiosity, and new ideas. It is adaptable and neutral.

Today is the 15th day of the Waxing Moon, Shukla Purnima, Full Moon – the deity is the Vishvadevas, all the Hindu deities as a whole. (Punima means full)

The Moon is in the Sign of Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, and in the Nakshatra of Mula, ruled by Ketu. The deity is Kali, and the lesson is to uproot darkness and plant the seeds of dharma ands truth.

So the full Moon is an auspicious time, and the added power in the sky is the Jupiter/Venus conjunction in Cancer, which will be exact on 3:49 am Eastern time on this day (Wednesday).

So yes, Jupiter is the planet of hope, optimism and higher teachings; Venus is about happiness, pleasure, & comfort; both considered to be benefic planets, and here they are in exact conjunction in the sign of Cancer, ruled by that full Moon. There’s a lot of love and Sattvic energy in the air today- it’s just an awesome day to soak in all the goodness in the world.

Ketu rules the Moon in Mula, which could bring insights in meditation, and strong intuitive leanings in terms of higher knowledge, and in our close relationships.

There also could be strong leanings towards wanting peace in the heart and wanting to pursue pleasure and comfort and worldly happiness; sometimes they do not resonate together harmoniously; Pursuing pleasure can be stimulating and not conducive to peace in the heart.

Mercury’s influence could make it a time to express what you’re feeling – singing in the car is always good; journaling can be quite productive; having lunch with your bestie and expressing yourself to the fullest can be most fulfilling on this day.

Venus and Jupiter can also bring luck and fortune, on all levels, from monetary gain –to meeting someone you love — to ideas of higher teachings –to just plain old good fortune (luck of the draw) – that is the kind of day it is.

Traditionally an auspicious day for ceremonies and spiritual practices.

Moon Diary 6.27.15

Saturday is associated with the planet Saturn, also called Shani or Shanaishchara (the slow mover) because it takes 2.5 years to travel through each constellation of the sidereal zodiac. Saturn represents austerity, discipline, restrictions and sufferings.

Saturn is also a spiritual teacher, but one who teaches through restriction, hard work, purification, service and humility, leading the person to face his weaknesses and more negative tendencies, to recognize and change them.

Today is a Nanda day, Nanda meaning happy.

Today is the 11th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Ekadashi, and the deity is Rudra, who’s a version of Shiva. Rudra is known as the divine archer, who shoots arrows of death and disease, and who has to be implored not to slay or injure in his wrath. As a healer and a source of 1,000 remedies, he has also a beneficent aspect. Additionally, he is the god of wind and storms.

The Moon is in the sign of Libra, ruled by Venus, and in the Nakshatra of Swati, ruled by Rahu. The deity of Swati is Vayu, the god of wind. Wind represents thoughts and powerful ideas in the mind.

Air and Vayu are also related to prana, which is the vitality in the breath.

Venus is a benefic, rajasic planet that governs romance, beauty, sensuality, passion, comforts, wealth, and luxuries.

In addition, the Moon is hemmed in by malefics — Rahu on one side in Virgo, and Saturn retrograde on the other side in Scorpio.

Saturn, Venus, Rahu and Rudra are all in the mix today – there could be some pressure to get things done, or pressure regarding social responsibilities, maybe a party you really don’t want to go to, or expectations that you can’t be bothered with. It could be that you’re not sure how to balance all the energies in your life – maybe you feel stuck about how to reconcile all that is demanded of you.

The trick is to slow down (Saturn), breathe, and stay in the moment, doing one thing at a time – you might be late for social appointments, or you might not achieve all that is thrown your way; no matter, breathe deep, stay in the moment, do what you can, and diplomatically bypass the rest. In that way, the day is much more enjoyable and the pressures can be appeased.

Traditionally a day to fast from grains.

Moon Diary 6.24.15

Wednesday is associated with Mercury.

Mercury is about communication, speech, expression, the voice, intelligence and curiosity. It is considered a neutral planet and adapts to the energy around it.

Mercury can be seen in the morning and evening as a shining star – and sometimes even during the day because of its power of radiation. Mercury is the smallest planet of our solar system. It also rules self-confidence, humor, wit, astrology, mathematics, and short journeys.

Today is a Jaya day – Jaya meaning triumphant.

Today is the 8th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Ashtami, also known as the 8th tithi or 8th lunar day. It is ruled by Shiva.

Shiva is about battle, and transforming that which no longer serves into more evolved & higher-principled action and outcomes. Shiva is the ascetic dweller of the mountains and the cosmic dancer, who with His third eye destroys evil.

The Moon is in the sign of Virgo, ruled by Mercury, and in the Nakshatra of Hasta.

The Deity for Hasta is Savitur, and the overall theme is one of manifesting beauty in our life. Hasta literally means “hand” and it brings the power into our hands so that we can manifest our heart’s desire and make a beautiful world to live in.

It is interesting that Wednesday is ruled by Mercury, and Mercury rules the Moon in Virgo today. The Moon is joined by Rahu in Virgo.

The Moon is grounded in an earth sign (Virgo), and Mercury is in Taurus today – another Earth sign – very much a day to take care of details, a day to work on anything that requires a bit of skill, a day to write or sing, or talk to your co-workers, family members, neighbors – for Mercury is the planet of expression. Be aware of Rahu in the mix, however, which can bring a never-satisfying surge or appetite in anything you do – things may seem not good enough or lacking in satisfaction – this is Rahu talking – just breathe, laugh, and come to be grateful for all moments of your day.

Traditionally not an auspicious day for ceremonies or making major decisions.

Moon Diary 6.2.15 Full Moon in Scorpio (Vedic Astrology)

Tuesday, associated with the planet Mars, is good for initiating things.

Mars represents the energy of anger, and if used in an evolved way, can be utilized to achieve much and is quite useful in getting things done, thus channeling that sometimes violent and destructive energy for higher purposes and pragmatic accomplishments.

Tuesday is the 15th and final day of the waxing Moon – Shukla Purnima – Full Moon – auspicious day for ceremonies, spiritual practices, and the manifestation of wishes. The brightness of the Moon is an indicator of strength and auspiciousness, and for any action to bear fruit, the Moon should be strong, and it is strongest when full.

So yes it is a Purna day – Purna meaning full.

The Moon is in the sign of Scorpio, ruled by Mars, and in the Nakshatra of Jyeshtha, ruled by Mercury. The deity of Jyeshtha of Indra, the god of all gods. The shakti of this nakshatra is to go to battle for what is righteous; the action to avoid is to turn everything into a war zone and become part of the drama royalty.

Such an interesting day – the Moon is debilitated in Scorpio, aspected by Mars, Sun, and Mercury retrograde, and ruled by Mars and Mercury. The saving grace is that the Moon is also aspected by an exalted Jupiter.

So this Full Moon day could be intense, in terms of strong emotions (Mars) rising to the surface and needing to express them (Mercury). Turn to higher teachings (Jupiter) to stabilize the possible emotional upheaval in the making (chant the mantra, sing uplifting love songs, chant to Ganesh). Use Mercury and Jupiter to their fullest extent – Mercury is in an earth sign – grounding, and Jupiter is in a sattvic sign – uplifting.

Great day to color your books in your blanket tent fort.

If that’s not possible, take time to breathe, chant whenever possible, sing in the car, tell your family members and friends you love them – take a break and linger at the water cooler at work, take some deep breaths, sigh out loud, and go back to work.

Traditionally an auspicious day for all ceremonies and spritual practices.

Moon Diary 5.13.15

Wednesday is associated with Mercury.

Mercury is about our ability to communicate, our intelligence, logical thinking, our curiosity.

Today is the 10th day of the waning Moon, Krishna Dashami, also the 25th day in the Moon cycle.

The deity associated with Krishna Dashami is Dharmaraja – who’s responsible for everything that’s related to Dharma and righteous way of living.

In addition, this is a Purna day, a day of fullness.

The Moon is in the sign of Aquarius, ruled by Saturn, and in the Nakashatra of Purva Bhadra Pada, ruled by Jupiter. The deity is Aja Ekapada, which means “one-footed goat”. The main thrust of this Nakshatra is pushing towards the goal – getting a glimpse of the Divine and being determined to go for union with the Infinite.

So it’s Mercury’s day, with Jupiter and Saturn and the god of Dharma watching over us all. Almost a holy day with so much benefic energy, reaching for a glimpse of the Divine.

Today would be excellent for speaking, writing, expressing all that inspires you – sit quietly and feel what truly gives you motivation and then write it down, sing it, speak it – write a poem, tell a friend, call someone who you resonate with and can hear what you are saying.

Also a good day for singing in the car – or saying something sweet to your kids – or speaking from your heart when talking to your partner or best friend.

Traditionally an auspicious day for all ceremonies and events.

Moon Diary Thursday 5.7.15

Thursday is associated with the planet Jupiter, representing higher teachings – what we are here to learn – and the expansion of wisdom and experience in our lives. Jupiter is a sattvic and benefic planet, and is said to be a significator of luck and fortune.

Today is a Rikta day – Rikta meaning stressed.

Today is the 19th lunar day, Krishna Chaturthi, the 4th day of the waning Moon, and the deity is Ganesh.

Ganesh – the elephant-headed deity – is the first son of Shiva and Parvati. Hindus pray to Ganesh before starting any new task. Among all the Hindu Deities, Ganesh is the closest to the material plane of consciousness, most easily contacted, and most able to assist us in our day-to-day life and concerns. Ganesh is the Lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles. He is also worshiped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom and wealth.

The Moon is in the sign of Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter, and in the Nakshatra of Mula, ruled by Ketu. The deity of Mula is Kali, and the lesson is to uproot darkness and plant the seeds of dharma and truth.

The Moon and Venus (in Germini) are also in mutual aspect –two benefic planets in houses ruled by benefic planets – auspicious placement conducive to happiness and contentment.

So today is about Jupiter, first and foremost, along with Ganesh, Ketu, and Kali.

Jupiter is benefic and hopeful; Ganesh is benefic and removes obstacles; Ketu is considered malefic for worldly existence and auspicious for one on the bhakti path; and Kali is seen to be cruel with the motivation to purify.

Today can be filled with hope and much reason to be happy, cheerful, and productive. Jupiter is in play in a big way, both ruling the day and the Moon in Saggitarius. Good day for praying, chanting to Ganesh, and being generous. A good day to buy lunch for a friend or family member – or give money to the poor, or to a relief fund for Nepal – or generally just to think positive in thought, word, and deed.

Also a good day for clearing your desk, cleaning out the basement, reducing clutter in your living room, clearing your mind of any negativity and limiting thoughts. (Ganesh).

Traditionally not an auspicious day for sacred ceremonies.

Moon Diary Sunday 5.3.15

Sunday is the Sun’s day. The Sun represents the Atman, the Supreme Self – big, powerful, bright. It also represents vitality, strength, and our physical body. It is regarded as a malefic planet, and at the same time, an auspicious one, in the sense that its role is to burn off everything we don’t need for liberation.

Today is the 15th and final day of the waxing Moon – Shukla Purnima – Full Moon. The brightness of the Moon is an indicator of strength and auspiciousness, and for any action to bear fruit, the Moon should be strong, and it is strongest when full.

So yes it is a Purna day – Purna meaning full.

The deity of Shukla Purnima is Chandra, which in reality, is the Moon. The influence of Chandra can be interpreted as “one that bestows soberness and clarity.”

The deity is the Vishvadevas, all the Hindu deities as a whole.

The Moon is in Libra, ruled by Venus, and in the Nakshatra of Svati, ruled by Rahu. The deity of Svati is Vayu, the wind god, and the son of Vayu is Hanuman, the monkey god.

The key lesson of Swati is to focus and channel the nature of the mind towards something that is uplifting and powerful rather than just having the mind running all over the place as in “monkey mind.”

So everyone is in on this one – all the deities – the Vishvadevas – and Hanuman and the Sun are all in on the mix.

The Moon is our feelings, our mind, and represents the Mother principle, the energy that creates and preserves. Moon is the deity of the element of water, and rules over the tides of the sea.

The full Moon is an auspicious time, and with our bodies being 60% water, we are affected by the pull of the Moon – the emotions can run high, and there can be unforeseen pressures in the body, the water being pulled by Chandra’s forces.

Full Moon in Libra can be all about feeling the balance, of lack of same, in our relationships. Feeling the pleasure, feeling the pressure, feeling the focus of Hanuman on our mind. With Rahi ruling the Moon and manifesting the monkey-mind part of the equation, there could be an overload of feeling out of sorts – maybe a bit obsessive – maybe feeling a bit unfocused and unable to pull it together..

All in all, though, a great day for all ceremonies and worship – an auspicious day for praying, singing, and chanting. An ideal time for wishing on the Moon and visualizing the manifestation of good in the lives of everyone, everywhere.

Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu – may all beings in all worlds be happy.

Moon Diary 5.1.15

Friday is associated with Venus.

Venus is a rajasic and benefic planet, governing romance, beauty, sensuality, passion, comforts, luxuries, wealth, and the bedroom. It is the significator of romantic relationships in a vedic astrology chart.

Today is a Jaya day – Jaya means victory.

Today is the 13th day of the waxing Moon, Shukla Trayodashi, and the deity is Kāmadeva.

Kāmadeva is responsible for forming friendships; also promotes sensual pleasures and gratification, sexual desire and its fulfillment.

Kāmadeva is known as the Indian Cupid, and is generally regarded as the son of Vishnu and Lakshmi, under the forms of Krishna and Rukmini, but he is also described in some places as a son of Brahmā.

It is said about Kamadeva: It is he who intoxicates with love – and – it is he who agitates the mind.

The Moon is in the sign of Virgo, ruled by Mercury, and in the Nakshatra of Hasta, ruled by the Moon.

The Deity for Hasta is Savitur, and the overall theme is one of manifesting beauty in our life. Hasta literally means “hand” and it brings the power into our hands so that we can manifest our heart’s desire and make a beautiful world to live in.

So today is dripping with love and romance and beauty and sensual pleasures. Good day for manifesting love and beauty in your life – write a song, compose a poem – with Mercury in the mix; take the special person in your life out for a meal, have a conversation with someone you love. A time to go deep into relating to someone – man, woman, child – just take the time to go deep in any kind of relationship.

Good day for service – make a meal for your family and make it extra special – mow a neighbor’s lawn– pick up trash in the streets and alleys and driveways – pray to help ease all the unrest In the world.

Traditionally a good day for karma removing rituals and dancing.
